What does LOOKLE mean?
LOOKLE is a name derived from the words 'Look Learn Engine'
HISTORY OF LOOKLE
LOOKLE was conceived and created in Melbourne, Australia, in
early 2000, and is the brainchild of its founder Alan Rogers
who had a determination and passion that such an important sector
of the internet should not be dominated by just one or two
major corporations only. LOOKLE has since gone through various styles
and models but still remains 100% Australian owned and operated.
MISSION
LOOKLE's mission is simply to present information searched
and accessed from the internet in a non-cluttered and easy to
use way and to remain 100% Australian owned and operated.
HOW LOOKLE WORKS
LOOKLE's core function is that of a search engine. Currently
LOOKLE accepts a special data feed from Yahoo Australia which
has been fine tuned to return Australian orientated web site
search results only. The quality, integrity and speed of the
search results are maintained with every search.
THE TECHNOLOGY
LOOKLE utilizes the ingenuity and sheer brilliance of some of
the worlds finest search engine engineers and programmers as
the backbone for a search engine that is responsive and very
accurate. High capacity, throughput, and redundancy, Linux-based
search architecture delivers maximum up-time and dependability.
LOOKLE delivers quality search results every time.
SPECIAL FEATURES TO MAKE SEARCHING FASTER & EASIER
In addition to normal web site searching LOOKLE also provides
specialized searches:-
| Sports | Forums | News | Blogs |
A very handy 'Quick Look' window feature enables
users to open up search results in small drop down windows,
whilst still remaining within the LOOKLE results page. By using
'Quick Look' users can immediately see if the
site is what they want, and if not they simply close the 'Quick
Look' window back up and continue on to the next result.
LOOKLE also provides
a quick and easy way for users to refer links they find to either
themselves or to friends. They simply click on
'Email a Link' icon and up pops
a special window.
BUSINESS MODEL & ADVERTISING
LOOKLE generates revenue primarily through affiliations, paid
for inclusion agreements and keyword targeted advertising.
Sometimes revenue may be in the form of indexing fees and/or
commissions on referred sales. LOOKLE provides advertisers with
the opportunity to deliver cost-effective online advertising
that is relevant to what the user is searching for.
The advertisers that are connected directly with LOOKLE (i.e.
not via a feed) are NOT charged on a 'cost per click' model
like many other search engines, because LOOKLE believes that
model can never be guaranteed 100% accurate, and is open widely
to abuse from competitors.

LOOKLE has also partnered with YAHOO in the form of accepting
advertising feeds.
Advertisers are able to promote themselves easily on LOOKLE,
matching up their web sites to various keywords searched on.
This allows them to target their web sites to the right audience
for a much higher return on investment.
